I So Don't Do Mysteries & I So Don't Do Spooky by Barrie Summy

Plot summary: In both of these books, Sherry (short for Sherlock) Holmes Baldwin must team up with her mother (who is a ghost) and solve a crime. But Sherry so doesn't do spooky mysteries.

This mystery series is one of the funnest I've seen in a long time. Sherry is a great character, with hilarious quirks, and gets herself into even funnier situations.

MYSTERIES is a great introduction to Sherry, her friends, and her life. Plus, it's just plain fun.
SPOOKY takes the story a bit further, and we learn more about Sherry. We also meet a few new characters (which I hope to see again in future books), and the stakes go up a notch. But it remains just as fun as the first.
Both books are fabulous, light fiction that will leave you with a smile on your face. Summy has done a fabulous job of capturing a thirteen year old girl and making her leap off the page. I can see all girls near Sherry's age loving these books, whether they are girly girls (like Sherry) or more practical (like Junie).

As for me, I can't wait for the next book, I SO DON'T DO MAKEUP, to come out this spring. Keep writing, Barrie!

I read the first book and thought it was so cute. A light read. And it was great to read something that wasn't heavy handed and depressing. (as much as I enjoy those too) This was written for entertainment with a cute mc and cute voice. I would recommend it.

Yuna - definitely good. Read these when you want a smile on your face. :)

Stephanie - I'm wishing I had a daughter to share these with! I'll have to settle for my niece, when she's older. :)

PJ - I can totally see that. Her blog is funny, too!

The book sounds like a lot of fun. Really like your brief review format. You hit the main points without giving anything away - just right.

Thanks! Though I should warn you that some of my reviews do contain spoilers, but I'll always give ample warnings. :)

I review other books with the purpose of dissecting them from a writer's perspective, and then it's pretty much impossible to get around spoilers. But I will also do reviews for great books like these, where there isn't anything to dissect and just love to share. :)
