I don't edit as I go, but I do usually stop around 20K to evaluate if I'm on the right track. This is when I decide if the POV and tense are working and if I need to revise my outline. I don't change the words unless I've decided to alter POV or tense.

ReplyDeleteGood article. Thanks for sharing. I'd also add that its best to write the first draft in one attempt, without a massive break at any time - picking up the plot again later is harder than you'd think!
